Fox Theater St Louis

William Fox opened the fabulous Fox Theater in S. Louis on January 31, 1929, to rave reviews. No name was bigger in the movies and no theater more popular – for a brief time. This quickly changed with the stock market crash later that year, and Fox lost his investments in the St Louis Fox Theater in 1932.

The St Louis Fox Theater would not be suppressed, however! A couple purchased the Fox Theater and called it the St. Louis Amusement Company, opening its doors occasionally to Kung Fu movies and music concerts. In 1978, changes in the economy again brought down the owners of the Fox Theater and the doors of the theater closed less than 50 years after it first opened.

In January, 1981, Mary and Leon Strauss surveyed the dilapidated Saint Louis Fox Theater. They soon joined Robert Baudendistel, Dennis McDaniel and Harvey Harris to become Fox Associates and purchased the Theater. Mary Strauss directed the restoration, which you can enjoy today!

 Shows, Shows, Shows!

Enjoy an array of shows at the Fox Theater from rock concerts to classical music to stage plays. There is no dress code at the Fox Theater, so come in what you are most comfortable wearing. The Broadway Series generally subscribes to a more classy dress than a rock concert. Many Fox Theater patrons would rather be overly dressed than under dressed for the occasion. If any particular style is suitable, it will be noted along with the description of the event.

Take a Tour!

Tours are available to visitors at The St Louis Fox Theater. For your enjoyment, you may even get to hear the talented Stan Kahn play one of the two Wurlitzer organs. The Fox Theater is the proud home of the 4/36 "Mighty Wurlitzer", which is housed in the main auditorium. Only five of these glorious instruments were built on the par of the original Wurlitzer 4/36 Special which was initially for New York's Paramount Theater on Times Square. The Fox Theater 4/36 "Mighty Wurlitzer" is one of these five originals. There is also a smaller 2/11 Wurlitzer in the lobby, replacing the original Moller instrument. The St. Louis Theater Organ Society is commissioned with its care.

Dinner and a Show

For those who would love a bite to eat before an evening at the Theater, Fox Theater now provides The Grand Buffet. The new Griffin and Marquee Rooms house this decadent restaurant and seat before most shows, opening an hour and a half before the curtain goes up. A per person fee of $24.95 includes your choice of delectable salads, sides, fresh rolls, non alcoholic beverages, tax and tip as well as the main course and the dessert bar.

For your convenience, reservations for two may be made online via their website. For reservations for parties with more than 2 persons, call MetroTix at 314-534-1111 or 800-293-5949 or stop by the Fox Theater Box Office.
